Milford Police: Moped Driver Dies In One-Vehicle Accident

Milford Fire officials report that the scooter's operator was found on the ground, without a helmet, unresponsive — and soon after went into cardiac arrest

The following is a press release from the Milford Police Department.

The Milford Police Department is currently investigating an accident involving a motorized scooter at the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Rivercliff Drive in Milford.

A preliminary investigation revealed that on May 20, 2014 at approximately 3:34pm a blue motorized scooter operated a 53-year-old male was traveling eastbound on Bridgeport Avenue. 

As the vehicle was executing a right turn onto Rivercliff Drive, the scooter struck the curbing causing the operator to be ejected from the scooter.

The operator was unresponsive and life-saving medical treatment was provided by emergency responders. 

The operator was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. 

The cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time.

A moped driver riding without a helmet was seriously injured during an apparent one-vehicle crash in Milford late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Milford Fire Capt. Greg Carman, at 3:33pm, the department responded to a person who had lost control of their moped at the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Rivercliff Drive.

"The operator was found on our arrival to be on the ground, without a helmet, unresponsive and soon after went into cardiac arrest," Carman stated in a press release.

CPR was conducted by fire department members and American Medical Response personnel, ans the driver — who has not yet been identified — was quickly transported to Bridgeport Hospital. 

Carman noted that "the condition of the patient is unknown at this time."

He added that the incident is being investigated by the Milford Police Department.
