On June 19th, and the State Liquor Control worked with the in the arrest of the owner of for the sale of alcohol to two minors. An infraction was issued to one minor and a second minor was arrested on a misdemeanor, as it was a second offense situation.
"We figured graduation time is increased potential for underage drinking," said Tanya Schweitzer, director of the Milford Prevention Council. Using funds from a Drug-Free Communities Grant, the Council joined with the Milford Police Department to conduct underage alcohol enforcement patrols.
Schweitzer emphasized the support of Officer Jeff Nielsen and Milford Police in these efforts. "It's something that's going to be ongoing throughout graduation time," Schweitzer added.
Both Officer Nielsen and Schweitzer were hesitant to reveal the tactics used to discover these underage alcohol sales.
When asked about Sassy's Liquor Locker, Schweitzer said, "That store is gaining quite the reputation through social media. You can ask kids in Milford. They've had so many violations, I'm surprised they're still open."
Officer Nielsen added that any Milford residents with information about underage alcohol sales should contact the Milford Police at 203-878-6551.
