K-9 Judge Ranked 10th Out Of 82 Teams in National Competition

Judge, a K-9 officer with the Milford Police Department, is a top dog.

Milford's police dog, Judge, and his handler, Officer Matthew Lima, ranked 10th out of 82 teams in the in the individual "Top Dog" event in a recent national K-9 competition, the Milford Police Department said.

The Region 7 team, including Lima and Judge, placed third in the regional team part of the United States Police Canine Association "National Police Dog Trial 1" in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, according to Officer Jeffrey Nielsen, spokesman for the Milford Police Department.

Just getting into the competition was a win for the city as only the top K-9 teams selected from the United States and Canada were allowed to compete last month, Nielsen said.

"Officer Lima and his K9 partner Judge along with four other law enforcement K9 teams from the New York State area, including NYPD Transit, Yonkers, Middletown and Warwick, represented Region 7 during the event," the Milford Police Department said in a press release.

"The K9 teams competed in events such as obedience, suspect search, article search, agility, and criminal apprehension including a weapon."
