CT Mom Leaves 2 Year-Old and 3 Month-Old Home While Food Shopping

Police say they were alerted by neighbors who heard the child's screams for his mother.

After all of the incidents in Connecticut of people leaving behind babies, infants, and children in hot cars comes along this bizarre story. 

A Connecticut mother was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor on Friday for allegedly leaving her children home alone while she went grocery shopping, multiple media outlets reports. 

West Haven police say Anlleila Melendez, 29, left her 2 year-old and 3 month-old children in her apartment for 40 minutes while she went to get groceries, WFSB 3 reports.

Neighbors were alerted that something was wrong when they heard piercing cries for help from the 2-year-old who was screaming for his mother, WFSB reports. 

Police said the air conditioning was on, and when Melendez returned with milk she was apologetic, WFSB reports. The state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
