A 40-year-old West Haven man was arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing checks from a Milford resident he was helping recover from surgery.
Kelly Smith faces 10 counts of first-degree forgery and a third-degree larceny charge for taking personal checks from a Milford resident's home and making them payable to himself, police said an investigation revealed.
Police said the victim recognized 10 unauthorized transactions totaling $4,115 had been made with the missing checks, each made payable to Smith.
Smith was released on a promise to appear for a court date on Sept. 18.
