Cops: Hammer-Wielding Hitchhiker Arrested in Milford

Milford man was denied a free ride so he took out the hammer, police say.

A 35-year-old Milford man was arrested early Monday for allegedly threatening a person with a hammer after being denied a ride.

Mark Blum was charged with second-degree threatening, criminal attempt to commit second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

Police say Blum approached a person in the parking lot of 1391 New Haven Ave. and asked for a lift. When that person refused, Blum “began striking a sign with a hammer and screaming,” according to the police report.

The Milford man then reportedly threatened the alleged victim with the hammer.

Blum was held in lieu of $10,000 bond, police said Tuesday.
