Cops: Fugitive Tried to Drop Off Toddler at Milford Hospital

Massachusetts man reportedly told staff he could not care for the 21-month-old child, who had an Amber Alert out for his return and was reportedly the man's son.

A fugitive who police said fled Massachusetts with a toddler allegedly attempted to drop off the young child -- reportedly his son -- at Milford Hospital Tuesday night.

Ryan Woods, 30, of North Brookfield, Mass., told hospital staff he could not care for the 21-month-old child, police said.

“The child was examined by hospital staff, found to be unharmed and was later reunited with the mother,” Milford police spokesman Jeff Nielsen said.

After being called to the Seaside Avenue hospital 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nielsen said investigators discovered there was an active Amber Alert out of Massachusetts for Woods and the toddler.

It was also learned that North Brookfield Police Department had an outstanding extraditable arrest warrant for Woods on reckless endangerment of a child and motor vehicle theft charges, the spokesman said.

The suspected stolen vehicle was located in the hospital parking lot, Nielsen said.

Woods was taken into custody and charged with fugitive from justice. The Massachusetts man was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and is expected to appear for arraignment in Milford Superior Court Wednesday.
