Boaters Become Stranded After Raft Capsizes off Anchor Beach

Fire officials respond to a call of boaters in distress.

Two boaters became stranded Tuesday when their inflatable raft capsized off of Anchor Beach.

“The first unit on scene (at about 1:30 p.m.) found two individuals on separate rock outcroppings,” Milford fire Capt. Kyle Brotherton said in a release.

Brotherton said one male swam to shore and the other was brought to land by West Shore Fire Rescue’s Marine 3 Unit. Neither boater had a life jacket.

With a water temperature around 66 degrees, the male who swam to shore was treated on scene for possible hypothermia, Brotherton said. Both were transported to Milford Hospital for evaluation.

“The department urges citizens to wear a personal floatation device any time they are on or near the water,” Brotherton said.
