A 23-year-old Milford man was arrested today in connection with an armed robbery in which an elderly employee of a local store was struck with a handgun.
Milford police arrested by warrant Andre Morris of Naugatuck Avenue on charges of first-degree criminal attempt to commit robbery, second-degree assault of an elderly person and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Morris reportedly admitted to police that on Sept. 23, 2011, he entered Howard's Variety Store at 40 Naugatuck Avenue in Milford wearing a mask and carrying a handgun. When the employee refused to give up money the suspect, Morris, allegedly struck him with the gun and then fled.
Police said their investigation led them to Morris, who reportedly confessed to the crime.
Morris surrendered at after learning of the outstanding warrant for his arrest, police said. He was held on a $50,000 bond and transported to for arraignment.
