99 Tickets Issued to Drivers Last Week on the Milford/Stratford I-95 Bridge
"Operation Big Orange" targets driving offenses in construction areas.
State Police are cracking down on dangerous driving in construction areas, especially around the Interstate 95 Moses Wheeler Bridge that connects Milford and Stratford over the Housatonic River.
“Operation Big Orange” began June 9, according to a Connecticut Department of Transportation news release. The spy-mission-esque title belongs to a highway enforcement program by ConnDOT in partnership with the Connecticut State Police.
The goal is to make roads safer around construction areas by making more traffic stops and ticketing more drivers who break the law. Fines are doubled in work zones.

According to information from Trooper Kelly Grant of the Connecticut State Police, police gave 99 total tickets to drivers between June 9 and June 13, some with multiple offenses.

- 41 speeding offenses
- 18 unsafe lane changes
- 14 instances of following too closely
- 3 move over offenses
- 48 other offenses, such as seatbelt, passing and equipment offenses
