Residents of Woodmont have requested that the City of Milford turn over to them the abandoned fire station, which is appraised at about $540,000, for $1, in order to create a Community Center. In addition, the State of Connecticut has awarded the Borough of Woodmont a $500,000 grant for this purpose. In total, more than $1 million in public (taxpayer) funds will go to the Borough of Woodmont for their Community Center.
Concurrently, the residents of the Borough have publicly revealed the exact address of a proposed "safe house" for abused women and their children in the Borough of Woodmont. By revealing the exact address, the Woodmont residents have effectively rendered the safety of the "safe haven" meaningless.
Milford prides itself on being a "small City with a big heart."
How can we justify giving the Borough of Woodmont, which has closed its heart to abused women and their kids, over a million dollars of public funds? I welcome your responses.
