The bear population -- specifically the black bear -- is increasing in Connecticut and so are the number of reports being made to the CT DEEP in regard to private property damage and threats to human health and safety.
The state of Connecticut is reportedly considering allowing limited bear hunting. The DEEP has made a proposal to the state legislature to establish a way to issue bear hunting permits.
The possibility of a hunting lottery has been floated, where hunters pay a nonrefundable fee to be entered into a drawing for a chance to hunt and winning hunters would then have a right to buy a permit to hunt the bear.
Patch wants to know if you feel that limited bear hunting should be allowed in Connecticut. Vote in today’s poll and feel free to elaborate in the comments section below.
It appears that CT is attempting to recruit and retain hunters with the sale of bear hunt licenses, copying NJ. Although in NJ, the bear hunts of 2010 and 2011 were 'gifts' from Chris Christie to the gun lobby who helped get him elected. Hopefully, CT will not follow this tragic example.
But more humane measures need to be taken first. we are the ones building more and more houses and taking all the land..
