New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. has proposed that non-citizen residents including undocumented immigrants be allowed to vote in municipal (not federal) elections, as reported in the New Haven Independent.
DeStefano proposed allowing all New Haven residents the right to vote, as long as they provide identification and proof of residency.
The Mayor argues that non-citizen residents who live in New Haven pay local taxes and their kids go to school in the city, so they should have the right to vote in local elections.
Patch wants to know if you agree that non-citizen residents should have the right to vote in local elections. Non-citizens and citizens alike may vote in today's poll and feel free to elaborate in the comments section below.
