GREAT TEACHERS-NOT FANCY CABINETS

Bill Silver, of Silver Petrucelli and Associates, by all accounts seems to be a nice guy. He sits in on all the meetings of Milford's ongoing Permanent Schools Facilities Committee. The word permanent tells you something, doesn't it? The firm has gotten work at Mathewson School, Foran High, Law, and, of course, East Shore Middle School where the mayor was quoted as saying in the New Haven Register (August 29, 2012)" Mayor Blake had hoped that all the necessary work at East Shore would cost $12 million, but bids came in more than $3 million higher".  Mr. Silver helped to draw up the contract with Bismark and the City Attorneys Office according to Mr. Richetelli, Chief Operations Officer of the school system.(Aug. 29, 2012 NH Register)  Mr. Silver of Silver, Petrucelli and Associates has been working with this Permanent School Facilities Committee for many years.
In an article printed in the Connecticut Post dated September 13, 2006 which dealt with the multi million dollar upgrades to both Law and Foran designed by Mr. Silver. Mr. Silver was quoted as saying "even the cabinets in the science rooms are nearly 40 years old", and "you wouldn't have cabinets in your kitchen that long". (Ct Post
Sept. 13, 2006)  The point is that Mr. Silver" functions" as a member and speaks at the current Long Range Planning Committee-the same Committee which has suggested Option A which is to build a $240 million brand new unnecessary high school.  Mr. Silver may think older science cabinets must be replaced at great cost to taxpayers BUT MOST MILFORD TAXPAYERS if given that choice would not agree. Our point is that Silver Petrucelli and Assoc. are not educators; they are designers. They do not seem to understand that Milford residents have been more than generous with building and improving our schools. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. DO NOT DESTROY THE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL SYSTEM WHICH JOE FORAN AND MANY OTHERS CREATED.  Milford taxpayers do not need a fancy new high school with fancy cabinets just because some architectural firm says we do. Magnet School? Concentrate on finding great teachers and that magnet will pull parents back to our once great neighborhood schools.
