Ronald Dunphy, Milford Public Works Retiree, dies at age 69

Ron was assigned to the transfer station and really looked forward to helping the general public. Ron was a good slow-pitch softball player playing for the MO-JO's and Seven Seas.

 

Ronald Dunphy, age 69, lifelong resident of Milford, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

Born on October 26, 1943 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Roper and Mildred Cipcer Dunphy. Ron recently retired from the public works department of the City of Milford.

Ron was assigned to the transfer station where he would assist people with their transfers. He really looked forward to helping the general public. Ron was a good slow-pitch softball player playing for the MO-JO’s and Seven Seas.

He was instrumental in creating the Harold Foote Touch Football championship game at Washington Field. Ron will be fondly remembered for his love of sports. He was a true sports enthusiast and his love of sports began with baseball and his favorite team at that time in the late 1940’s was the Brooklyn Dodgers.

As time went on the love of all sports, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, etc., became the norm. He was a true sports authority and any question you had about any sport, Ron would have just about every answer.

He was an avid and devoted fan of UCONN women’s basketball and enjoyed Lauralton Hall’s basketball and softball teams, attending many of their games to cheer the girls on. His enthusiasm, good nature and friendliness will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Ron is survived by his brother, Bob Dunphy and his wife Marie of Milford; a niece, Colleen Iannuzzi of Naples, FL and nephew Robert Dunphy, Jr. of Palm Harbor, FL and best friends Tyler and Barbara Lewis and their daughter Maggie. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Sat., May 4 at 9 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church, 26 Broadway, Milford, CT 06460. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milford.

Friends and family may call on Friday, May 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785 or to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
