Obituary: Warren Woodruff Cole, age 90

Warren served with pride and honor for three years during WWII in the Army Air Corps where he flew from England in heavy bombers.

 

Warren Woodruff Cole, age 90, former resident of Milford, Orange and of Ashlar Village in Wallingford, beloved husband to the late Constance Davis Cole, passed away at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden on Monday, April 8, 2013.

He was born on November 5, 1922 in Peoria, IL and attended Lake Forest Academy and Cornell University. Warren served with pride and honor for three years during WWII in the Army Air Corps where he flew from England in heavy bombers; shot down on his 8th mission over German-occupied Holland, he bravely escaped back to England.

He married Constance Davis in 1949. Warren was employed by General Electric in market research, and subsequently owned and operated several coin operated laundries until his retirement. A member of the Orange Congregational Church for over 50 years, he served on many boards which included 13 years as a trustee. 

Warren is survived by two daughters, Mary Winters of Wellesley, MA and Christine Kaldy of Medfield, MA and a son, Frank Cole of Guilford, CT and five cherished grandchildren. 

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 19 at noon at the Orange Center Cemetery, Orange, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AmericanWarrior (www.americanwarrior.us), an organization which honors WWII Veterans by escorting them to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. (AmericanWarrior, PO Box 337, 35 Main St, Versailles, CT 06383).
