Obituary: Virginia Ann Boughton, age 74

Virginia Ann Boughton, 74, beloved wife of Edgar George Boughton, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 29, 2012, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16th at home in Stratford, surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Albert and Eleanor DeFeo, she was born in Bridgeport on April 13, 1938 and lived in Milford for most of her adult life.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut in 1960, Virginia had a long career as a school nurse, beloved by children and staff at many schools in Stratford and Milford, most notably Calf Pen Meadow and Harborside.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved to laugh. She spent many recent summers with Ed and the family at their Roy Carpenters beach cottage in Matunuck, RI. She also loved to travel, play bingo and shop for bargains. A dedicated friend, Virginia maintained close friendships with many of her childhood school mates and neighbors. 

Virginia is survived by her children, of whom she was extremely proud, Laura Ahlborn and her husband Michael of Manhattan, Deborah Boughton of Stratford, Amy Yann and her husband Arthur of Fairfield, and Elizabeth Petropulos and her husband Nicholas of Adams, MA; and her cherished grandchildren, Owen George and Andrew Joseph Petropulos and Sofia Claire Yann. She was predeceased by her sister Alberta Torento of Milford, but survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nine nieces and nephews and many cousins. 

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the tremendous expertise and care provided by Randall Zuckerman, MD and the entire team at the St. Vincent’s Cancer Center, as well as Gin Hill of CT Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 21st at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Sunday, January 20th from 3 to 7 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.
