Obituary: Michael P. Kupson, age 92

Michael P. Kupson, age 92, lifelong resident of Milford and beloved husband to Olga Shirin Kupson, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Golden Hill Health Care in Milford.

Born on December 20, 1920 in his family home on Central Ave., he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Grabercz Kupson. Michael was a 1939 graduate of Milford High School and furthered his education at Aero Industries Technical Institute in Los Angeles, CA with training in aircraft mechanics and craftsmanship.

He was employed with North American Aircraft in CA for a period of time until he returned to CT to take a job as foreman at Chance-Vought in Stratford, where he met his wife, Olga.

Michael then enlisted and served with pride and honor in the US Navy during WWII and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL maintaining and repairing aircraft. After the war, he was employed as a home builder constructing many homes in Milford and Orange, including his own.

Michael also owned and managed Kupson’s Package store on Bridgeport Ave. for a period of time. He went on to work as a tooling and pattern maker at Sikorsky Aircraft for 20 years until his retirement in 1982.

Michael was a passionate aviation enthusiast, building 3 full size airplanes during his career. His only regret in life was that he was unable to earn his pilot’s license due to the onset of glaucoma.

In addition to being a master craftsman, he was an avid ballroom dancer, who, along with his wife, followed the weekend dance circuit throughout CT. 

In addition to his wife, Olga of 68 years, Michael is survived by his beloved children, Elayne Stratz Ferraro (Mike) of Bluffton, SC, Michael D. Kupson (June) of Milford; Patricia Warncke (Lee) of Orange and Maureen Zimmerman (Mark) of West Haven and five grandchildren; David, Paula and Sara Warncke, Michelle Gore and Erika Zimmerman. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra, who passed at birth. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. 06460. There will be no calling hours and committal will be private. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers, doctors and nurses from Home Care Plus of Milford, Golden Hill HCC and Bridgeport Geriatric Services.
