Obituary: Joan Kelley Macklin, age 89

Joan Kelley Macklin, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Golden Hill Health Care Facility in Milford, Connecticut.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Vincent J. Macklin. Joan was born in Salina, Kansas, daughter of the late Thomas A. and Elizabeth Kelley. She was predeceased by her sister and two brothers.

Joan held a Bachelors Degree from Marymount College, in Salina, Kansas, and a Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York City. She worked many years as a teacher and guidance counselor at elementary schools in New York State and Connecticut.

She completed her career as Principal of the King Street Elementary School in Danbury, CT. In retirement she lived for several years in Brevard, North Carolina. Joan is survived by her son Robert V. Macklin and his wife Nancy of Milford, CT., her daughter Jean Macklin-Bell and her husband Steve of Louisa, Virginia, and her granddaughter Courtney A. Macklin of Buffalo, New York.

Services will be private and are in the care of Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. The family would like to thank Golden Hill Health Care for their exceptional care to Joan over the past seven years. Also, we are grateful to Hospice for their services during the past several months.
