Clayton Joseph Smith, Milford Public Works employee for 47 years, dies at 67

Joe served as a Captain of the Milford Volunteer Fire Company 2 at Fort Trumbull Beach until 1980.

 

Clayton Joseph Smith, age 67, lifelong resident of Milford and beloved father to Clayton, II, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Born on April 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Clayton Eugene and Marian Lynch Smith. Known as “Joe” to family and friends alike, he was an employee of Milford Public Works for over 47 years and had served as a Captain of the Milford Volunteer Fire Company 2 at Fort Trumbull Beach until 1980. Joe was an avid hunter and sportsman for most of his life.

In addition to his son, Clayton, he is survived by his sisters, Sally Farrar of Port St. Lucie, FL, Karen Jennings of Seymour, Jean Check of Vero Beach, FL, Marian S. McFarland of Derby and Eleanor S. Pugh of Milford as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Dudley King. 

A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, followed by interment at King’s Highway Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday, April 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460.
