Shawn was one of 90 Special Olympians from Connecticut who made the trek to New Jersey.

Shawn has been involved in Special Olympics for the past 10 years.

“He knows so many people in town,” his father has said. “He’s like the mayor in town.”

“My son is so loveable, it’s unbelievable,” added his father. “If he met you today he’d remember you as a friend forever. There is not a mean bone in his body.”

Shawn works everyday through ACES at a warehouse in West Haven sorting items. He’s run the torch run with the Milford Police Department in 2010, and knows a lot of the police officers.

Milford police officer Jeffrey Nielsen, who is very active with Special Olympics, said Shawn is a very popular young man around the city. The entire Milford Police Department was supporting Shawn, Nielsen said.
