THE BIJOU THEATRE PRESENTS GODSPELL

The Bijou Theatre presents GODSPELL, runnings April 11-19.

All performances will take place at The Bijou Theatre, 275 Fairfield Avenue, Downtown Bridgeport. The production is directed by Maggie Pangrazio with music direction by Bill D'Andrea and choreography by Cynthia Rivera and Heli Vaher, starring Jenifer Menedis, Marc Improta, Heather Abrado, Kathy Alexander, Juan Ayala, Jim Norton, Kevin Pelkey, Rene Ragan, Sean Reynolds, and Jennifer Subtil.

Conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day.” As the cast performs “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love.

Godspell is the second show produced as a joint venture by The Bijou Theatre and Maggie Pangrazio this season, following the successful weekend run of Dial M for Murder this past February. Inspired by the recent formation of The Bijou Performing Arts Center and the new iteration of The Bijou Theatre as a center for live theatrical performance, this production of Godspell celebrates these well-known parables and songs as a metaphor for the strength of theatre and collaboration. Through the lessons of the Gospel and the songs of love in their musical incarnation, Godspell teaches us that peace and community are universal.

Performances are April 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8PM, and April 12 and 13 at 5PM. Tickets are $20 for Theatre Seating and $25 for Table/Hi-Top Table Seating and can be purchased online at thebijoutheatre.com or at the box office 203.332.3228. Doors open one hour before each performance. Please come early to enjoy a cocktail, concession, Two Boots pizza, salad, coffee or dessert.
