Old Flag disposal

If you have a worn American flag beyond repair that you would like to see disposed of in the proper way, please bring it to the Milford Historical Society, 34 High Street by Labor Day, Sept. 2, and put it in a receptacle you will find on the lawn.
Ryan Lapadula, a member of Scout Troop 1 of Milford, who has chosen this as a service project, will pick up flags.
Boy Scout publications have instructions for the proper way to "retire" American flags: "When our national flag is worn beyond repair, it may be burned in a simple ceremony conducted with dignity and respect. The flag must be reduced to ashes and be unrecognizable as a former flag."
Lapdula will be assisted by the American Legion.
