What's your favorite Milford nonprofit?

GreatNonprofits.org released its first ever list of top-rated charities near Milford, which Patch.com readers can use to discover top volunteer, giving, and internship opportunities.

Palo Alto, Calif. – Interested in volunteering, giving or interning with a great local charity? GreatNonprofits.org released today its first consolidated list of user-reviewed non-profits in Milford, which Patch.com readers can use to discover top-rated charities to give or work with on issues they care about.

“Local giving and volunteering has exploded in recent years,” says Perla Ni, the CEO of GreatNonprofits, which published the list. GreatNonprofits is the leading site for non-profit reviews by volunteers, donors, and clients alike. “Like Shop local, eat local, people now want to get involved with local nonprofits. People are increasingly interested in making meaningful connections in their own neighborhoods and communities.”

Check out this list to find a great non-profit around Milford.

This list only contains charities within 10 miles of Milford, but you can expand it to include non-profits up to 50 miles away, or you can sort through them by issue and user rating. If your favorite charity is missing from the list, you can create a page for it on GreatNonprofits.org. Then you can write and post a review about it, helping others discover the organization and contribute to this great community resource.  Not only does this provide useful feedback for non-profits, which they can use for self-assessment and improvement, but it serves as compelling evidence about their work, which they can show to donors.

It is also a great way to find out about volunteer, internship, and job opportunities at local charities.

“It’s so rewarding for people to discover on-the-ground, maybe lesser-known non-profits doing great work in their own communities,” said Ni. “Getting involved, volunteering or interning with local charities can be a terrific experience, because non-profits need and appreciate the help. You can get substantive responsibilities and hone real-world skills. And you'll be able to make a difference and see it in your own community!"

The full list over 1 million non-profits, which users can explore using zip code, issue, and rating filters, is available at http://greatnonprofits.org/.

Dear Ms Rosen, While this is not a stupid question, it is one that even Solomon could not answer. I spend a lot of time working for NPOs and even I could not state which I like best. Solomon would ask a mother which child she likes best, or ask you which finger you like best.
Milford has many fine charities and ALL of them help make this city a better place to live. DON'T MAKE US CHOOSE.

For me personally, my favorite non profit is hands down the United Way of Milford. The question wasn't which one was the best, or which one did the most, or anything like that, it was very simply, "which one was your favorite" And again for me my favorite is the United Way of Milford. Thanks

Peter, I too like the umbrella NPOs that are part of the United Way. These organizations who receive a cut of the funds raised by the United Way are also free to raise additional funds on their own to make up the budget shortage given by the United Way.
In the United States of America, I am informed that the largest fundraising NPO is the Salvation Army. Another hidden asset are the Freemasons who annually donate in goods and services over $2,000,000.00 a DAY. Then add in the work of the International Service Clubs of the Lions, Rotary, and Kiwanis. who aid folks worldwide, especially during major disasters. Peter, I just don' know how you can pick only one charity, I can't, but I do have my personal priorities.

To clarify, they have 4 cats, and they're only able to take two of them, plus their 14 year old dog.Read More It was a struggle for them to even find a way to get the dog in the rental agreement, otherwise they would have tried to take them. :(

Sad that they had to leave these beauties behind. I'm sure they are heartbroken over it.

Please contact Forgotten Felines in Clinton. They are a no kill cat shelter. Offering "free toRead More a good home" pets is dangerous. There are bad people out there who take them and sell them to research labs or use them as bait in dog fighting. Please rethink this ad.
