Democrats and Republicans Trade Barbs Over Police Commission Appointment

Republicans questioned the appointment of Democratic Town Committee Chairman Richard Smith to the Milford Police Commission.

Republicans and Democrats are squabbling over the appointment earlier this week of the Democratic Town Committee chairman to fill .

An article by the New Haven Register reported that Republicans questioned if Democratic Party chairman Richard Smith could be objective as a member of the Police Commission. The Register reported earlier that the Milford Board of Aldermen had appointed Smith. Democrats dismissed the Republicans’ concerns as partisan politics.

Candido, a Democrat who worked as the chief judicial marshal at the Waterbury courthouse, resigned from the commission at the end of May after a report by state investigators accused him of numerous violations of the state’s sexual harassment policy.

I don't know the Police Department is mostly all Republicans, if this is about polarization of liberal vs. conservative well Smith is certainly going to move policy and debates to the left. Will be interesting to see how well recieved he is.

They are replacing one democrat with another. Not really sure why there is a debate. The only thing I would worry about if I was a police officer there would be the fact that Rich Smith is in the same party that tried to sneak an insurance change by the city unions in the 11th hour under the notion of equal to or better than nonsense. The police union was the same union that endorsed Blake as well, so basically, birds of a feather
