An article by the New Haven Register reported that Republicans questioned if Democratic Party chairman Richard Smith could be objective as a member of the Police Commission. The Register reported earlier that the Milford Board of Aldermen had appointed Smith. Democrats dismissed the Republicans’ concerns as partisan politics.
Candido, a Democrat who worked as the chief judicial marshal at the Waterbury courthouse, resigned from the commission at the end of May after a report by state investigators accused him of numerous violations of the state’s sexual harassment policy.
