Devon Rotary Passes $1million Mark in Gifts To the Community

Mayor Ben Blake proclaimed June 4th Devon Rotary Day. The Rotary has given over $1 million to the community. Their largest fundraiser is being held Tuesday at Stonebridge Restaurant.

Last Monday was a day of pride for the Devon Rotary. Mayor Benjamin Blake declared June 4th Devon Rotary Day in Milford. The occasion was in honor of the club passing the $1 million mark in gifts to the community through scholarships and grants.

One million dollars is a lot of money, but where did those dollars actually go? Many of the organizations that serve the community receive funding from Devon Rotary. Among the recipients for this year include:

  • Literacy Center of Milford
  • Beth El Shelter
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Bridges Mentoring program

Those organizations have helped countless people within our community with the help of the Rotary. Some of the community landmarks that Milford is so proud of were built or refurbished by the Devon Rotary. Among the places all citizens enjoy on behalf of the club are:

  • The Devon Rotary Pavilion at Walnut Beach
  • Liberty Rock Park
  • Milford Hospital emergency waiting area
  • Flagpole at entrance to Devon

We’ve also donated a van to Beth El Shelter and have pledged over $20,000 to the YMCA.

How do we raise the money? We do it with fundraisers.  Our largest fundraiser, The Harley Davidson Raffle, will be taking place Tuesday, June 12 at Stonebridge Restaurant. All the money raised will be returned to the community to support groups and projects like those listed above. The festivities will begin at 5:00 PM with the drawing at 8:00 PM. Come down and bring your friends, everyone has a great time. This year’s first prize is the 2012 Harley Road King. As bike fans know, the Road King is a top of the line model. If you want to buy a ticket and support the groups we’ve listed, or one of the many other organizations and scholarships that receive support from the Rotary, you can buy a ticket at Beachwood Florists, Milford Photo, or Wines and More. You don’t have to be present to win. There is a cash award for non-bikers. Call James Secondi for information 203-877-7520
