Wanda Hornack, of Wanda's Sugar Shack, Passes

The namesake of a Milford landmark, Wanda's Sugar Shack, has passed.

Wanda Hornack's family shared her passing with a message posted Sunday on the Facebook page of business, which closed last December after 40 years in Milford:

Dear friends,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we must inform you that Wanda passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son in-law last night.

We, her family, would like to express our gratitude to all of you for your love and support of Wanda and Wanda's Sugar Shack throughout all these many years.

Wanda's impact on Milford and it's surrounding communities will be fondly recalled for generations to come. She truly was the "sweetest" woman we've ever known. Her kindness and generosity is legendary, touching the hearts of all who met her.

You, her fans and friends, literally span the globe and her thoughts were always of you and her family. Please take a moment to smile when you think of Wanda today, it was her greatest joy to bring a smile to every face that passed through her door and her life.

We are all heartbroken but so thankful to be able to have her in our lives. We will keep you all posted as to Wanda's final arrangements and we are hoping to establish a fund to erect a permanent memorial in Wanda's memory as well as support her favorite charities.

Thanks again for all of your love and support, be good and kind to one another, stay sweet Sugar Shackers , Wanda would've wanted it that way.
