Milford Cinema Sells for $5.8 Million

There are a number of possibilities for development on the newly acquired property.


At the Economic Development Commimission meeting this morning, it was announced that the site has been bought for $5.8 million.

Ceruzzi Properties, a Fairfield-based company with a history of developing in Milford, has purchased the property.

What Could Be Built There?

"Zoning allows for mixed use," Milford Director of Economic & Community Development Bob Gregory said. Gregory noted that one single tenant could occupy the property, or "it could be a combo of things." 

"As Cyrus [Settineri, Economic Development Commission Chairman] said, they're quality developers who will make something happen," Gregory noted.

Everyone had great ideas about possible occupants during our . Now that Ceruzzi Properties has bought the land, what do you think should be built there?

Another movie theatre, Bob Gregory noted, will not occupy the space.

A shopping plaza similar to the Milford Marketplace!! The Milford Marketplace turned out to be a beautiful shopping center!

Hi Lynda: I'd love a movie theater, as well. I used to work at the Fourplex, Milford Showcase, and the Orange Showcase. Watched them all sadly close down. I think it might not be economically feasible to put a theatre there, though.

Why not something that makes Milford more attractive for business and residency? Cherry St. Is a corridor to the Green and downtown, but unfortunately isn't too inviting

Great suggestion! Why was movie theater nixed so quickly? It was convenient for me as opposed to going to the Mall.

How about a mixed use extension of downtown? Something like Blue Back Square in West Hartford or Storrs Center, or Harbor Point in Stamford. 3-story buildings with apartments, shops underneath and "city" streets". Either that or Stew's.

A $6,000,000 investment will have to return a sizable return in rent just to pay the taxes. To me this means a shopping center at the least. But I too would like to see Stew Leonards come to Milford.

Fairway would be good. Notice they bought into the Harbor Point development in Stamford. Fairway tends to edge less towards suburban and more urban. If the lot were to be developed like an "urban" development with multi-story buildings, city streets, etc. you could have a mix of retail tenants, apartments, office buildings, and an anchor like Fairway. They are a fantastic grocery store.

I seem to remember reading something a while back about Showcase saying that whoever bought the property couldn't use it for a movie theater. I have no idea why. It would be so cool to have a drive-in movie theater back in there, but yeah, it would never fly.

Ugh that is super lame if true. What a waste of space and leaving that plaza empty. Awful decision. Did the city support this? I was going to say a Wegman's would be great there.
