Can Entertainment Return to Cherry Street?

What should become of the Showcase Milford - Cherry St., which is in a great location, but has been vacant for six years?

With the closing of  at the , it's easy to forget that shuttered landmark of movie-watching entertainment right across the street: Showcase Milford - Cherry St.

Just over a half-decade ago, National Amusements was a strong presence in Milford and Orange with Fourplex Cinemas, Showcase Milford and Showcase Orange all showing movies seven days a week. In just over a year, though, all three theatres closed down. Showcase Orange's property was bought by United Illuminating and the Connecticut Post 14 Cinema De Lux--now    --replaced the Fourplex.

The only National Amusements theatre still standing in town is Showcase Milford - Cherry St. There have been attempts over the past six years to sell the property. In 2008, for example, the property was listed with Summit Development Corporation, but the land remains overgrown with weeds and grass, and the theatre is still standing. It also still has fans, as evidenced by the theatre's tribute Facebook page.

We pose the question to you: What would you like to see open at the former Showcase Cinemas Milford - Cherry St.?
