M & M Farms Closes After 20 Years

Owners say the store became too expensive to run.

The doors of are closed, marking the end of an era at the popular place that was known for its produce, deli and Asian market.

"To all our loyal customers," a sign reads on the door, "Thank you for shopping at M & M. We are now closed after 20 years!!!!"

Owner Mike Parise, 65, said Monday it is a bittersweet moment as he and his wife, Mary Parise, 62, were forced to close the store because it grew too expensive to run.

Parise, who mustered a smile Monday despite sadness in his eyes, said he will fondly remember all his regular customers.

"One minute you're OK, the next minute it's sad. It's sad," he said. "There's no question about it."

The Rye resident, who also owns an M & M in New City, N.Y., hopes to open an M & M at a smaller location in Orange, perhaps next year.
