Milford Arts Legend to Bring Her Show to Orange

Denise morris Curt brought the Meet the Artists & Artisans events to Milford -- and will now introduce it to neighboring Orange.

Denise morris Curt is a larger than life legend in Connecticut.

In Milford, just the mention of her name (with the lower case “m” in the “morris”) instantly brings the arts to mind.

Paintings, sculpture, photography, it is what morris Curt is all about, both creating and promoting it for the masses.

She is famous for her Meet the Artists & Artisans events in Milford (Spring and Fall) and Mystic (Summer and Labor Day), her juried art shows traditionally bring the best of the best to the state in May, July and September, but now morris Curt is opening the door for a new venue, a June Meet the Artists & Artisans at the Orange Fairgrounds.

morris Curt spoke before the Orange Board of Selectmen on Feb. 9, offering an explanation of how her shows work: Free admission, the finest artists from across the country, and (gasp) use of indoor bathrooms instead of the “temples of convenience” (Port-o-potties).

A seasoned professional, morris Curt already has spoken to Orange Park and Rec Director Dan Lynch, and was well-prepared to answer any questions the board members threw her way.

In the end, the board unanimously approved morris Curt’s request and Orange will have its first Meet the Artists & Artisans show at the fairgrounds June 25 and 26.

This year's Milford event is Mother's Day weekend, May 7 & 8, on the Green.
