Get to Know Milford Artist Ray Ferrer

The Milford-based artist has upcoming solo exhibits in San Diego, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, and Vermont.

How did you first get involved in the arts?

I was always artistic but prior to creating emotional pieces on canvas I was an engineer so my artistic creativity came in the form of network architecture and design.  I began painting only 2 years ago.  I have an undergrad degree in Engineering and my MBA.... no formal art education.

What is your latest project?

Currently I am working multiple projects.  Most importantly, I have donated 35 pieces to Lagond Music School located in Elmsford, NY (Westchester County) which will be sold to raise money for at-risk youth and special needs children.  100% proceeds goes to the school to fund those areas of education.  Here is the link to the Facebook event (April 13th): http://www.facebook.com/events/141551189347578/

I am also booked for a solo exhibition in San Diego, my west coast debut, on May 3rd.  After San Diego I have an event in CT, NY, Virginia, and Vermont. All solo exhibitions.

What advice do you wish you'd received when you first got started?

I really had the only advice that I needed and it was from my wife.  She told me "Damn, your stuff looks awesome!"  that was all I needed to hear.  She is honest with me.  I believe and trust her and by listening to that and ignoring my own nagging insecurities it has led to my quick success.

Who are some local artists people should check out?

I am not too sure of other local artist here in CT but there are some great artists, fairly unknown, in the NY area.. for instance Lizzie Gill (www.LizzieGill.com)
