College Campuses Celebrate the Holidays

Ring in the holidays with a number of a events at Quinnipiac, Yale, Albertus Magnus and SCSU.

Peter White Christmas on Friday, Dec. 2

A holiday concert featuring the contemporary jazz of Peter White, Mindi Abair and Kirk Whalum is scheduled for the Lyman Center of Performing Arts at Southern Connecticut State University on 501 Crescent St., New Haven. Tickets are $32 for the public and can be purchased here.

A Rare ‘Christmas Carol’ on Saturday, Dec. 3

There are countless film versions of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol,’ but none more rare than the version playing in Echlin 101 on the Quinnipiac University Mount Carmel Campus at 6:30 p.m. The Stingiest Man in Town debuted on NBC in 1956 to rave reviews, but until know hasn’t been shown publicly in half a century. Admission is free and open to everyone.

Christmas Concert at Albertus Magnus on Thursday, Dec. 8

The school’s newly-formed choral group is having a free hour-long concert at the campus’ Rosary Hall at 4:30 p.m.

A More Recognizable ‘Christmas Carol’ on Thursday, Dec. 22

The Yale Center for British Art on 1080 Chapel St., New Haven, is showing a more familiar adaptation of Dickens’ work at 5 p.m. The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol, also known as Scrooge, stars British thespian Alastair Sim.
