I'm the art instructor at Milford Senior Center and Im preparing for my students' 2nd annual art show on March 22.

What advice do you wish you'd received when you first got started?

When at the age of 19 when I went to U.B. I had hoped someone told me it was OK to be a realist. The instructor dwelled on modern art which I did not like so I quit school.

Who are some local artists people should check out?

I have been "out" in the art field only since April 2012. Though I stated painting when I retired in 1998, I didn't display any of my art until my first show at the Milford yacht club sponsored by the Milford Fine Arts Council. I won 1st prize and sold that painting, MUCH to my surprise.

Therefpre I know no artists by name and cant recommend any. I like Edward Hooper's style and dont copy it but keep his ideas in my minds eye when I paint. At age 73 my art has been very relaxing and rewarding when people appreciate it.
