4 the Arts: Lisa Bagley

A talk with Milford artist Lisa Bagley about her new company Fur-lopsophy, which grew out of a line of pet paintings she'd been working on.

How did you first get involved in the arts?

I have always been interested in art. As long as I can remember. My teachers noticed my interest and talent as early as 1st grade and I think having the acknowledgment really made me want to keep up with it. Art has always been my passion. It's what makes me feel most like myself.

What is your latest project?

My latest project is a company called Fur-losophy. It grew from a line of pet paintings I had been working on. Fur-losophy is an apparel  company that offers tee shirts, jewelry and stickers with the purpose of giving back to animals in need. It is a way to fulfill my creativity while giving back to help rescue animals and increase animal welfare.

What advice do you wish you'd received when you first got started?

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Your artwork can feel very personal and it is hard to open yourself up enough to let people have judgments on it. Being judged is not easy. It's okay if someone doesn't like your work. There are many people, including you, that will love it.

Who are some local artists people should check out?

Barbara Borck-Hart. Originally from new York but now residing in Milford.  I love her oil paintings of polo matches. They are full of color and energy. Her use of color is intriguing and invigorating. She is a true fine artist.
