Flood Watch: Heavy Rains, Storms Could Cause 'Significant' Flooding

Flash flooding is possible across southern Connecticut late Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning — with up to 3 inches of rain possible in some areas.

A mix of heavy rains and thunderstorms could result in "significant" flooding in areas throughout the shoreline region starting late Friday afternoon and into early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch that covers all of New Haven County and Middlesex counties.

With the region already soaked from rains earlier this week, some 1 to 2 inches of additional heavy rain is expected to fall — with locally higher amounts possible in some areas during the storm, the NWS reports.

There is an increased threat of significant urban flooding, along with flooding of -low-lying and poor drainage areas," the meteorologists warn in their report.
