City Warns of Bobcat Sightings

Mayor Ben Blake shares the following message on the city's official Facebook page

"Over the past week, the city has received several reports of Bobcat sightings around North Milford.

"As you would with anything wild, please exercise common sense and avoid approaching the animals. Also, please take appropriate precautions to protect small pets."

The bobcat is a protected species that does not normally interfere with humans, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. But it will prey upon some domestic animals, including cats, the DEEP warns.

"If you live in more rural areas where bobcats have been sighted, make sure that you have good spotlights to be able to see your pets if you let them out at night -- and don't let them be unattended," Rick George, Milford's chief animal control officer, told Milford Patch in 2011, when the above photo was taken by a resident.

If the big cats appear to be overly aggressive or sick, George suggested residents call the DEEP or the Milford Police Department.
