One place that has not been mentioned and that is the Cafe at Milford Hospital. Many folks think that $10 is an OK price for a lunch, now take a survey for places serving a $5 lunch where a diet soda does not cost over $2. Yes when I first started working full-time in the 60s I bought a Businessman's Lunch all over NYC that consisted of "soup, sandwich and drink" for 50¢. Yes time has changed our cost of living but for one on a fixed income at the low end a lunch costing $10 is obscene.

I never saw Bobettes, but after seeing their menu online, I'm sure gonna give them a try! Also, Pickles deli sucks...well actually they're awesome; I just don't want the lines any longer, so stay away newcomers! :P

Ronald - I don't think anybody wants to set foot in Milford Hospital if they're injured or sick, let alone for lunch.

John Hanks... I've been a patient twice at Milford Hospital for very serious problems and cannot say enough good things about the care I received. In my opinion, the staff is wonderful and the treatment topnotch. I owe my life to Milford Hospital.

Bebe - Those two instances must have been years and years ago because I've never once heard good things about Milford Hospital. I have family members as well as friends with family members that have had terrible experiences from just a month ago to a few years back. From staff to doctor issues, wrong diagnosis, laziness, etc. I had a cousin go in there with a knee injury last year, doctor said he was fine and said take Tylenol for the pain. He went for a second opinion elsewhere and turns out he had torn his ACL and needed surgery. That is pretty far from top notch.. more like bottom notch if you ask me.

John.. The last instance was only 3 weeks ago. The previous one was 12 yrs ago. Sorry your family and friends weren't as pleased.

Are we still talking about lunch?

Gentlemen, Last year I paid Milford Hospital about ten visits, mainly to the ER. A few times I was admitted for a longer stay. Within the past couple of years they had a change in food service and as a recipient I can say the service is not as good as in the past as a patient. The same holds true going there only for lunch, but then the food is still inexpensive. Now for treatment, the nursing staff is excellent, but when it comes to the doctors, you must take care as to whom you choose for your specialists and not rely on the staff doctors. As a patient you must exert your rights so that they respect you and not run roughshod over you. For major surgery transfer to Bridgeport or Yale New Haven Hospitals and their doctors which are teaching hospitals. Remember this was supposed to be about $10 lunches.

I had a horrible experience at Yale and Bridgeport Hospital. Can't say enough good things about the surgical center on the Trumbull/Bpt line though. Dickeys BBQ and the Merritt Canteen is right down the street!

For Mexican Food Have you tried Milford Pizza on Naugatuck Avenue? It is located behind in the strip plaza behind Milford Bank. The Mexican dishes are Delicious! Try a Cemita they are great value as well as delicious! Many Lunch Choices for under $10.

@TMC - Dickey's BBQ shut down. In Milford - Bobbette's, Milford Pizza & Mexican (for the Mexican), Liquid Lunch, Brats on a Bun, Cafe Atlantique, Chipotle, Olive Tree. We need more healthy, inexpensive options in Milford.

@arkay - I didn't realize it was gone; never really go up there anymore. Thx!
