Al Dente Closes, Changing Owners

A sign outside the establishment explains that Al dente "will be opening soon under new ownership."

A comment by Patty Malota on the Milford Patch Facebook page asked the question: "Does anyone know why al dente is closed?"

A sign down at the beloved Devon Italian restaurant and pizzeria reads:

After 10 wonder years in this community, Danny and Christina have decided to sell Al dente. Thank you for all of your patronage through the years. Al dente will be opening soon under new ownership.

Bob Gregory, Community & Economic Development Director for the City of Milford, said the following:

Obviously, we're very saddened to hear about the closing. Christina was a member of the Devon Revitalization Committee for a good number of years and contributed and her partner Dan is involved in a new venture at the Flagship Marina, but Al dente's was a very positive happening for the Village of Devon and I hope to see it under new ownership and in a new shape or form, come back to life.

118th District State Representative Kim Rose spoke of the closing, saying, "It's always unfortunate."

Rose commented on the plans to re-open the restaurant under new ownership, saying that she was "looking forward to the next new adventure."

So sad that Al Dente closed. I believe it was one of Milford's best kept secrets. We loved the food there and Christina always made us feel welcome. Hopefully the new owners will do the same. Lesson learned: when you find a good restaurant, spread the word. I could never understand why people I spoke to over the years didn't know how good it was. I even wrote a review on Patch some months ago saying what a great restaurant it was. They will be missed.

I'm a fan too, and I'm sorry to hear about it closing. I hope it re-opens soon and the new owners live up to its reputation.

Hopefully the new owners will have a similar menu with their food up to the same standards. There's not another good Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. Very often when going out with friends and trying to decide where to dine, we'd say "Let's just go to Al Dente as the food's always good".
