St. Mary School Celebrates Catholic Schools Month

Catholic Schools Month "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards."

Every January we celebrate Catholic Schools Month, and this year’s theme is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.”  It is true that Catholic Education is one where we do set the bar high, and we are never disappointed in the way the students are able to meet these expectations and excel well beyond them.  Not only do they raise the standards, but so do our parents and teachers; ‘average’ and ‘status quo’ are not words heard very often here.

There is a lot going on this month!  The much anticipated last week of January is always packed with activities that strengthen our spirit, show off our school pride, and bring together the entire St. Mary community with gratefulness, love and fun. Friday night is the 17th Annual Father Daughter Dance.  Our school gym is transformed into a beautifully decorated ballroom, and girls from our Preschool through 8th grade enjoy a night with the favorite man in their life.  The next night is Family Bingo where the whole family comes to play, enjoy dinner & refreshments, visit with other families, and all students win a door prize.  The school week then kicks off with a school wide Mass on Monday January 28th at 8:30 am and continues with events the students look forward to each year. There is an ice cream social, pajamas and a movie day, ZUMBA classes (new this year) and the perennial favorite “Bump Up Day” when students get a chance to spend time in the grade they will be in next year.

We welcome prospective and current families at our Open House on Tuesday January 29th from 9-11am, which gives a peek into a day in the life at SMS. All weekend masses have our students in their school uniforms greet parishioners and speak to the parish during Mass about what they learn, what they will bring to the world when they leave and what they think is special about their school. The readers always impress everyone with their grace and comfort at the pulpit.  It’s always a busy and memorable week!

In addition to all those activities, our second graders will be receiving their First Reconciliation and we are hosting our Book Fair!

We invite anyone interested in our school to visit us at our Open House or call anytime for a tour or a day of shadowing.
