BRIDGEPORT -- Housatonic Community College will hold a two-day workshop on the basics of art and artifact handling Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9.

The workshop will cover museum best practices of handling various pieces of art and artifacts.  It is designed for individuals seeking a career opportunity within the museum industry as well as staff members of museums and commercial fine art companies, regionally and nationally.

Program topics include history of collection care, basic principles and practices of collection care, conservation: handling 2- and  3-dimensional objects, materials commonly used in protecting objects, and the proper equipment to use.

The program is being instructed by Brent Powell, the chairman of the Preparation, Art Handling, and Collections Care Information Network (PACCIN), with which he has been involved for over 20 years. In that time, he has created and run programs covering the best methods for art handling and written for numerous publications in the museum industry.
