Your Tranny: Do you really know about it?

Transmission Servicing: How Important Is It?

The transmission is an essential series of parts that keeps your car going. If you don’t want a fairly costly repair, you’ve got to service your transmission. Just as you don’t want your engine to fail – you don’t want your transmission to fail. And both of these parts need routine maintenance to stay healthy.

  • A complete transmission service should provide the following:
  • Examining and cleaning the pan
  • Replacing the screen or filter
  • Installing a new pan gasket
  • Pumping the old transmission fluid and adding new ATF (transmission fluid)
  • Depending on your car model, technicians may also need to add a friction modifier

Why do you need to routinely replace your transmission fluid?
It is as necessary to lubricate your transmission as engine oil is to lubricate your engine. This reduces transmission slips. By flushing out the old transmission fluid unwanted particles are removed, and allows your transmission to function more seamlessly.
