Young Enterpreneurs Donate to Get In Touch Foundation

Every year in June, eleven-year-old Isabela Meade and her sister, nine-year-old Soledad, co-owners of Rock On Creations, set up their rock-painting business at the Annual Cap’n Kidd Treasure Hunt Pirates Day event, presented by the Downtown Milford Business Association. Their sole purpose at this event is to raise money to donate to an organization they lovingly support – The Get In Touch Foundation. This year they raised $350, and recently presented their donation check to Foundation President/CEO/Founder Mary Ann Wasil.

The Get In Touch Foundation was founded in 2004 by cancer survivor, mom, and Milford resident Mary Ann Wasil, President and CEO. According to Ms. Wasil, ‘Get In Touch is now an international organization in 50 states and 23 countries, and is managed by an international board of directors.”  The mission of the Get In Touch Foundation is to encourage girls of all ages to ‘Get In Touch’ with their bodies, information, and each other in the crusade against breast cancer. This is accomplished via the Get In Touch Girls Program & Daisy Wheel.  This program teaches girls to “get in touch” with their bodies through self-examination and has been developed by board members and members of the medical community, including focus-groups of girls ages 8-18.  The Get In Touch interactive and fun Daisy Wheel teaches the importance of doing breast self-examination and provides instructions - not just for now, but for life!  The Daisy Wheel is then given out to girls in grades 5-12 when health educators discuss hygiene and the girls' changing bodies.

The Downtown Milford Business Association's vision and mission is to bring attention to unique and picturesque downtown with all its various and unique amenities including the second longest town Green in Connecticut, walking distance from the harbor, Lisman Landing, monuments, the Historical Society and Historic buildings, and the Milford Fine Arts Center.
