Yale Doctor to Discuss Parkinson's at The Watermark

On Thursday, December 12, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host its monthly Parkinson’s Support Group meeting, along with its weekly Parkinson’s Fitness Class. The support group will be held at 10:00 a.m., and the fitness class at 1:00 p.m. at the retirement community located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

 

The guest speaker for December will be Dr. Duarte Machado, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurologist at Yale Health Center who specializes in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.

“We are looking forward to Dr. Duarte’s discussion and are so pleased that he will be bringing his expertise on Parkinson’s to The Watermark,” said Marlane Argianas, Resident Services Coordinator. “We hope anyone who is living with or caring for someone with Parkinson’s will take advantage of this free informational program.”

The group fitness class that will follow the discussion is designed specifically for those who have Parkinson’s disease. The class, which meets every Thursday, consists of a warm-up, balance and strengthening exercises, and a cool down/stretch period. The class is be led by Cindy McGuire, Fitness Director at The Watermark and certified group exercise instructor with over 25 years of experience working with seniors.
