The Watermark at 3030 Park to Host Lecture on Historic Ireland Famine

On Wednesday, July 31, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host a lecture on the devastating Irish Famine during the mid-1800’s. The event will feature guest speaker Grace Brady, Executive Director of Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University. The lecture will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the retirement community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport/Fairfield town line.

For her lecture, entitled “Home from Home: Commemorating Ireland’s Great Hunger in America,” Brady will discuss the origins of the museum and its current collection, by  showing images of the collection and discussing how they relate to or are inspired by the Irish Famine.

“Despite happening more than 150 years ago, the Irish Famine is something that still resonates with people to this day, especially those who had parents or grandparents that suffered through it,” said Tracy-Ann Samuel, Community Life Director at The Watermark at 3030 Park. “We hope this lecture brings some perspective to residents and guests about this tragic event, and how it affected the history, culture and population of Ireland.”
