The Bijou Theatre is proud to announce it’s new Performing Arts Center, featuring a variety of classes and workshops that are sure to get your creativity flowing and energy going – beginning February 8th, 2014! Check out what we have to offer below:

ARTS AND CRAFTS FOR MOM AND ME (Ages 3-5)

Wednesdays, 10:00am – 11:00am
Instructor: Maureen Lucier
10 Weeks / $200
Grow through group play. Inspire natural curiosity. Encourage childhood creativity. This is what your child will experience in this beginner level arts and crafts class. In this safe environment your child will explore and use their imagination to create those one of a kind art masterpieces.  At the end of each project we will have a storybook that will correspond with our art project that day.

AUDITION WORKSHOP (Ages 12+)

In this 10 week workshop we will learn about the audition process from your first “hello” to your last “thank you”. We will work on choosing the right song, how to do a cold reading, how to make the perfect first impression, how to choose the right headshot, how to write your resume, what to wear, and what NOT to do. Ever. If you’re regularly auditioning and just want to hone your skills, or you’re just starting out and need a crash course, you will benefit from this class.

CREATIVE DRAMATICS FOR KIDS I (Ages 4 – 7)

Introduces children with limited reading skills to basic commercial and camera technique using creative dramatics, music and movement. Through positive reinforcement the children learn to respect others’ work, the responsibilities of commercial work on a set and working with an ensemble.

Explore the Elements of Improv in our introductory course. You will learn some of the core fundamentals and principles of improv, focusing on various games and exercises that encourage trust, communication, agreement (“yes and”); active listening, character, status, and making your scene partner look good.

Singers focus on vocal development and music reading. Ensemble skills are stressed. Repertoire expands as skills develop including multiple part singing, with more sophisticated musical forms and techniques.

COMBINATION DANCE Pre-Ballet, Tap & Jazz (Ages 5 - 7)

For our younger dancers the first step is combining music & movement. This class consists of pre-ballet, tap & jazz combined with age-appropriate motor skill exercises & games.


COMBINATION DANCE Ballet, Tap & Jazz Technique (Ages 8 - 12)

Saturdays 10:00am - 11:30am  Instructor: Jennifer Subtil

16 Weeks $400

This age student concentrates on a higher level of technique for their barre & center work as motor skills increase. In addition, they explore floor patterns and musicality for choreography.

BALLET / Intermediate Level (Teen/Adult, ages 12+)

Thursdays 6:00pm - 7:30pm  Instructor Kenneth Hopkins or Jean Barber

16 Weeks $400

A basic knowledge of ballet technique needed. Class will consist of ballet exercises at the barre, floor stretches & center work.


CONTEMPORARY DANCE (Teen/Adult, Ages 12+)

Contemporary dance explores the natural energies & emotions of the human body incorporating many styles of movement such as classical ballet, modern & jazz..

MUSICAL THEATER DANCE (Ages 10 - 18)

16 Weeks $400

Movement, staging & dance workshop for the aspiring musical theatre performer. Beginning with a dance warm up consisting of ballet, jazz & tap exercises the class will focus on learning choreography for Musical Theatre songs.
