Opposes Blake's discussion on Merging the Milford Dog Pound with the Stratford Kill Shelter.

Dear Rep. Kim Rose

Hi Kim had a long conversation with Jane, I understand she is working to help the Devon Dog Park become a reality and we both agreed that we appreciate your efforts.

However, a more pressing matter has come up and that is the proposed merger of the Milford Dog Pound with the Stratford Dog pound. As you may or may not know, our dog pound is very well run and compassionate toward homeless animals. As a former Friend to the late Dr. Tossich DVM and having a father and a brother who are both Veterinarians I can say with confidence that the reputation of the Stratford dog pound leaves very little to be desired.

Without going into detail about the euthanasia program there, and the lack of effort on their part to locate the owners of lost pets I would urge you to keep an eye on this proposal and hopefully speak out in favor of Milford's pet owners.

Having several pets myself, I would be heartbroken as would my family if my dog strayed and was put to sleep in Stratford. I think since you are somewhat of a champion, and local person of great respect to pet owners we/I would beg of your support to what you can to block any attempted merger of these facilities.

Thank you, and feel free to write or stay in touch if I can be any help you.

Hi Rocco, Thank you for reaching out to me, I have heard those rumblings myself, and I agree with you. That is a local issue that I can't really get involved with at this point. I'm assuming that it is because the pound is sitting on valuable property. However, in my mind it should be moved to Eisenhower which would be ideal for all. It would have to be a grass roots effort and perhaps a Friends of Milford Animal Shelter needs to be formed. I'm not privy to the inside details and have heard nothing "official". Of course I will continue to support OUR shelter, it has a great reputation and i too, would NOT want my pet to end up in another town. Also if I were interested in adopting, I would not want to go to Stratford to do that either, not to mention job loss. I would speak to Rick and find out if there could be a friends of the pound formed, that would be a great beginning for a grass roots group to try to block this.
