New Trees for the green
The Milford Recreation Department is pleased to announce the planting of 25 new trees on The Milford Green.
The planting was a cooperative effort between the Recreation Department, the Public Works Department, the Tree Commission, Milford Trees Inc., and Planters Choice Nursery, to replace those trees on the western end of The Green which have died; and those which were damaged or destroyed as a result of the storms in both 2011 and 2012.
“The Milford Green is the second longest green in New England and is the centerpiece of our City” Tom Hunt, Foreman in the Public Department stated. “Residents and visitors always comment on the beauty of The Green and planting these trees will add to that beauty.”

Sean O’Neil of Milford Trees Inc. added “these trees will definitely add beauty to The Green and will compliment Milford’s Legacy Arboretum.”
The planting consists of 10 different varieties of trees that will add a wide range of colors in the spring, summer and fall. According to Mayor Benjamin Blake, “the trees will be the proper shape and height to be strung with lights for our Annual Tree Lighting.” Adding “many residents have commented on how dark that end of The Green has been as a result of the absence of trees.”
