Grindline SkateParks selected for SkatePark Expansion

Milford, CT – The Milford Recreation Department is pleased to announce that Grindline SkateParks of Seattle, Washington has been selected to design and build the expansion to the Skatepark at the Edward T. Austin Recreation Complex on Washington Street.

Grindline was one of eight companies who submitted conceptual drawings to renovate the existing skatepark, which was opened in 2005.

The main scope of the renovation will include the removal of an existing asphalt area, and replacing it with a concrete surface of street type elements, which will include ledges, stairs, railings, and curved quarter pipes.  These new features will complement the bowl and other existing concrete features.  In addition to enhancing the skating surface, the City will be also making other user friendly improvements to site.

“Grindline’s concept has equal appeal to skaters, bikers and scooters,” stated Paul Piscitelli, Director of Recreation. “The proposed design has a good organic shape that carries the flow of the current bowl and its features; and it adds those elements that users of this popular recreation spot are looking for.”

Micah Shapiro, Sales Manager and Lead Designer of Grindline stated “we are enthusiastic about this project and are excited about renovating the current Skatepark to enhance the City of Milford and serve as an active recreation destination for the youth and families of the community.”

The next phase of the project includes finalizing the design and obtaining the necessary permits.  It is possible that construction may begin in late fall.  A grand re-opening will be scheduled once the renovation is complete.
