Nationally Acclaimed Boys & Girls Club Program Director Jill DeWerdt Joins Milford Location

Plans To Institute Multiple New Programs And Initiatives

Milford, CT—December 5, 2012
—The Boys & Girls Club of Milford, Connecticut, welcomed Jill DeWerdt to the position of Program Director. She brings over 13 years of experience with the Boys & Girls Clubs organization and is the former Program Director for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley location.

National acknowledgements include the prestigious Boys & Girls Club of America “Archie” Mangini National Award for Outstanding Youth Professional of the Year. This award was in recognition of her multiple contributions to the Club -including her development of Immersion a science based mentoring program, in conjunction with the Robert Ballard Institute of Exploration at Mystic Aquarium. She helped develop the curriculum, train facilitators and accompanied Club members to Greece and the Bahamas to conduct research and science explorations.

She has run national award winning programs—notably the Torch Club and Keystone Programs. The programs are powerful vehicles where Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents. Members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.

"I am thrilled to join such a remarkable organization. The Boys & Girls Club of Milford is full of opportunities for the youth in our community to positively develop into young adults. I see great potential in this Club and in all of its members. I look forward to growing along with the Club and its members for years to come” said Jill DeWerdt, Program Director for the club.

The Club and members are thrilled to have Jill aboard. Club members will get to experience a first class afterschool program.  The changes and additions she has already implemented have greatly improved our program and I am sure she will continue to grow and develop our program to be one of the best in the Boys & Girls Club movement.” noted Executive Director Megan Altomare.

The Boys & Girls Club currently runs a variety of programs integral to the growth and development of Milford’s youth, most notably: Money Matters, Torch Club, Healthy Eating, and Image Makers Photography. Future plans include implementing a program specifically dedicated to the teens, as well as a summer program for youth ages 6-16.
